Since we met and
fell in love on the beautiful, sunny, California central coast, in San Luis Obispo, we thought it only
fitting to be married here. We’ve chosen the perfect spot that suits our style, right downtown, the Historic
Jack House and Gardens.
Located in downtown San Luis Obispo at 536 Marsh Street, the historic Jack House and its Victorian gardens are an ideal setting for weddings, receptions or other special events.
The grounds feature a gazebo, patio area with fountain, kitchen and utility building, restrooms and a barbecue area. The house has been renovated to return visitors to the Victorian days and the nearby wash house has been converted to a gift shop.
The Jack House is
a unique piece of California’s elegant history and its colorful past which will transport visitors back to
the Victorian era. The Jack Family, holds history with some of the most prominent players in the drama of
Central California development. Active in ranching, politics, travel, banking and land development, the
Jacks were also friends and associates to the likes of railroad magnates Charles Crocker and C.P.
Huntington, acclaimed statesman and pianist, Ignace Paderewski, and humorist Will Rogers.
The Jacks lived in this
fine two-story Victorian house for over 90 years and much of the family’s original furnishings, artwork,
kitchen utensils, dishes and keepsakes are now on display for visitors. The family’s library collection,
alone, houses over 2000 volumes including several great literary treasures, a number of first editions and
many of the Harvard Classics.
Victorian Elegance Revived…
Since it was deeded to the City of San Luis Obispo, the house has been
carefully renovated, taking utmost care to recreate the home exactly as it was when Mr. Jack was one of the
City’s leading bankers. Careful research led to the current color scheme of the exterior, returning it to
its Victorian “painted lady” elegance. Carriage House Similar consideration has been given in each of the
interior rooms, to refurbish the original furnishings and replicate the draperies, wall and floor coverings
that might have been selected by Mr. and Mrs. Jack when the home was built in 1880.
Stroll the Past…
The
surrounding grounds offer one of the most beautiful old-fashioned garden settings in San Luis Obispo. The
massive trees, several of which are over 100 years old, create a picturesque setting enhanced by the
striking floral abundance. The memorial rose garden features traditional Victorian species. The romantic
gazebo, a full-catering facility and stage area help make the gardens a favorite choice for weddings.
